Home town to my company HO! Very nice large town with an easy going, laid back population. Real southern hospitality is on tap here and its 100% wonderful.

Restaurants

  • Country's, Several but best is on Main Street Village on Veterans Parkway (T: 706 660 1415). This is really really nice. They make good old traditional food (i.e. ribs etc) and I have to admit that even I was defeated by the portions. Outstanding service and great southern ambiance. Well recommended. - last update Aug 2006 #1cool.gif (111 bytes)
  • The Chattahoochee River Club, 1100 Bay Avenue, Columbus GA 31902 (T: 706 596 1100 / F: 706 571 8779). This is a private club that has the best fine dining in Columbus. Its true southern hospitality at its best with great food and great selection of drinks. Its great to step outside and enjoy the river view from their veranda. Very well recommended.
  • The Fish Market, Just off Manchester to the right going north on Veterans Parkway. Very nice Sea Food restaurant that operates a BYOB to the question of alcohol. They are famous for their fried Ochra.

Hotels

  • Marriott Hotel, 800 Front Ave, Columbus GA (T: 800 228 9280). Very decent hotel right on the state line with Alabama. Really nice service, I think it used to be a Wyndham hotel by the styling. Only issue: There is a freight train that passes regularly, and you really don't want to be on the side facing the railway line as it will wake you up. :-) cool.gif (111 bytes)(Aug 2006)
